About Alan (Viet Pham)
Independent Seafood Sourcing Consultant — Mekong Delta, Vietnam
I help international buyers source aquatic specialty products from Vietnam’s Mekong Delta — reliably, transparently, and without surprises. My work is grounded in eight and a half years inside a major seafood processing operation, which means I understand factories from the inside: what certifications actually mean, where quality problems start, and how to find suppliers worth building a relationship with.
What I Do
I work as a disclosed sourcing agent — buyers engage me directly, know my commission from the outset, and receive independent advice on suppliers, pricing, and product quality. I represent the buyer, not the factory. My role is to find the right supplier for what you need, verify they can actually deliver it, and stay involved through the shipment so problems surface before they become claims.
Background and Credentials
Espersen Vietnam — Operations Manager (2015–2024)
For eight and a half years I managed operations at Espersen Vietnam, the local arm of a major Danish seafood group. The role covered factory output, EU compliance, international order management, and direct relationships with buyers in Japan and France — two of the most demanding markets for quality and documentation. That experience is the foundation of everything I do now as an independent consultant.
Nha Trang Fisheries University
Bachelor of Engineering, Aquatic Products Technology. A technical grounding in the biology, processing, and quality parameters of seafood — which matters when you’re reading a spec sheet or evaluating a factory’s cold chain setup.
Language and Communication
Professional working English, Vietnamese (native), and a translation certificate — with Mandarin study ongoing. In practice this means I can communicate directly with suppliers, draft bilingual specifications, and work without intermediaries across all the markets I serve.
Markets I Serve
Japan France Hong Kong China Thailand
Products I Source
These are product categories I actively source — not a full catalog. If you need something not listed here, contact me and I’ll tell you honestly whether I can help.
- Basa Fish Bladder (Fish Maw) — specialty ingredient for pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food applications
- Shrimp (Black Tiger and Vannamei) — multiple processing forms, HACCP/ASC options available
- Saba Portion — sourced for Japanese and Hong Kong buyers
- Other products on request — I source what my clients need, within Vietnam’s aquatic specialty supply base
Case Studies
Basa Bladder — China Buyer
Client: China seafood trading company
Challenge: Sourcing pangasius bladder at a competitive price with consistent quality
Approach: After five supplier visits and direct quality negotiations, I identified a processing partner who could meet both the specification and the price target.
Results:
- First 20ft container delivered within one month of confirming the supplier
- 100% quality compliance on arrival
- Ongoing partnership — 40ft container shipped the following month
Products: Pangasius bladder, IQF | Timeline: 2024 – present
Basa Fillet — Japan Importer
Client: Japan seafood importer
Challenge: Reefer LCL consolidation — the buyer needed less than a full container, which most suppliers don’t accommodate directly
Approach: Connected the buyer with a supplier who regularly ships to Japan and was willing to consolidate the load alongside existing orders.
Results:
- Goods delivered successfully to Japan customer
- Zero quality claims
- Successful groupage with interests balanced across all parties
Products: Basa fillets, various sizes | Timeline: 2025 – present
What Clients Say
“Alan has been our trusted sourcing partner for over two years. He consistently finds suppliers who meet our spec and handles the follow-up so we don’t have to. We’ve received 25+ containers of surimi and fish skin through him without a single serious quality issue.”
— Stone, General Manager, QBF
“We needed the right pangasius suppliers, not just any supplier. Alan understood the difference. He found us the right match and managed the export documentation — the whole process was straightforward. Highly recommended for China buyers.”
— Wilson, Director, QHIMEX
“The certified facilities he sources from give us confidence that what we receive is EU-compliant. His response time is fast and he deals with problems directly rather than passing them back to us.”
— Lucas, Purchasing Manager, RSLT
How I Work — Transparent by Design
- Commission disclosed upfront. You know what I earn before we start. No hidden margin added to supplier prices, no rebates from factories.
- I represent the buyer. My job is to find the best supplier for your requirement — not to push a particular factory. If a supplier isn’t a good fit, I’ll say so.
- Direct communication. You deal with me personally — no account managers, no routing through a team that doesn’t know your order history.
- On the ground in Vietnam. I visit suppliers, check production, and follow up on quality issues in person. That’s the part that’s hard to replicate from a distance.
